Frances (Franny) McCarthy, of 114 Northwood Circle, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2010, at her home with her loving family at her side. Franny was born on August 10, 1945, in Poteau, OK, a daughter Frances and the late, Nicholas Maselli. Franny was married to her loving husband, Stephen R. McCarthy on July 1, 2006, in the Town of Lee. Franny was a special person. She was a loving wife and mother. She was a true friend to all that knew her. She was kind and generous to both friends and strangers. During her life, she was a foster mother to over forty children. She loved cooking, crafting, music, dancing and life. When she walked in a room, she lit up the room. When she smiled, she lit up your heart. Every day with her was a blessing. She has four daughters and one son from a previous marriage to James Farrar; Jamie and Craig Stockholm of Fairborn, OH, Lorrie Bennett of Azle, TX, Nici Eastup and Glenn Scarfile of Lee Center, NY, Angela and Bill Stangel of Boonville, NY, and John Farrar of Kansas City, MO. Her children by marriage include; Carla McCarthy and Fred Fuller of Ticonderoga, NY, Jessica McCarthy of Rome, NY, and Jaclyn McCarthy of Greenville, NC. Grandchildren include, Andy Stockholm, Becky (Kevin) Cox, Jesica Ream, Cole Bennett, Allison and Dalton Eastup, Stephen, Bernie and Tyler Jordan, Kaitlin Baker, Kadin and Kaylee McCarthy. Great grandchildren are Jayce, Maddox, and Brinley Cox, Ashley Ream and Christian Stockholm. Franny was formerly employed at Rose Hospital. She later worked for the Dept of Corrections at Marcy C.F., Mid-State C.F, and eventually retired as Principal Personnel Clerk at Oneida Correctional Facility. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Benny Wong, Shannon Reilly, Betsy and all the girls at Hematology/Oncology Associates of Central, NY. A special thanks to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. of New Hartford, NY, and especially to Franny's nurse, Jane Neiman, and also to Jan Elliot from Upstate Homecare for the care and compassion they showed towards Franny and her family during her illness. The funeral service will be held Monday at 10:00 AM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, Rome. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Sunday 3 to 7 PM.
