Obituary of Andrew D. Cameron

Andrew D. Cameron, Jr., of Rome, passed away peacefully, Thursday, August 12, 2010, after a lifetime full of adventures. Andy was born in Oneida on December 19, 1954, a son of the late Andrew Sr. and Katherine Kellmurray Cameron. He spent most of his young years growing up in North Syracuse, and later moved to Rome where he worked at Griffiss Air Force Base as an aircraft refueler until his medical disability retirement in 1992. Andy spent three years in the U.S. Army from 1974 to 1977, stationed at Ft. Meade in Maryland, where his pride and joy, his son, Jessie was born. Andy was an avid race car fanatic and was involved in drag racing at Utica-Rome Speedway and ESTA speedways for many years, from the time he was sixteen years old. Andy is survived by his son, Jessie and fiancée, Jennifer Porter; two grandchildren, Aaron Jay and Daisy Ann; three sisters and brothers in law, Martha and Harry Griffith of Utica, Jane and Don Rogers of Montana, and Kathy Cameron of Vernon; and a brother, Michael Cameron of Deansboro. Relatives and friends may call at Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, Tuesday, August 17, 2010, from 5 to 7 PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Andy's name to the Disabled American Veterans Chapter in Rome, New York.
