Albina E. Barkauskas (Burkie), 91 of Rome, formerly of Scranton, PA passed away peacefully September 1, 2012, with her daughters by her side at the Masonic Care Community after a long illness. She was born Albina Eleanor Siminovich, January 2, 1921, a daughter of Constance and Marian Vilchinskas Siminovich in Scranton, Pa. She married Charles A. Barkauskas (Chick Burke) on April 20, 1940 in St. John's Church. Albina was mainly a homemaker but worked part time at the Polish Home. She was a lifelong member of the Polish Home and was an avid player in the weekly pitch tournaments. She enjoyed bowling, card playing, walking and spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and would always take a pot of food to whoever she visited. She was predeceased by her husband Chick on January 22, 1985, two daughters Paula M. Barkauskas and Mary L. Reynolds, a sister and two brothers. She is survived by her son Charles E. Barkauskas (Chickie Burke) and daughter-in-law Martha of Bonita Springs, Florida, two daughters Terri A. Levy and Johnita M. DeMatteo of Rome. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 10:00 AM at St. Mary of the Assumption Church. Relatives and friends may call at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, Friday 5 to 8 PM The family would like to thank Dr. Wilcox and the all the staff at the Masonic Care Community especially the Windham household for all their wonderful care and support.
