Ernest "Ernie" J. Mercoldie, age 85, of Rome, passed away peacefully at home on May 23, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.
Ernie was born in Rome on March 7, 1934 to the late Louis and Susanna Roman Mercoldie and graduated from Rome Free Academy. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Ernie retired from Revere Copper Products where he worked as a machine operator.
Ernie enjoyed fishing, was an avid Yankees fan, a war history buff and loved to travel, he greatly enjoyed his return visits to Germany where he served while in the Army. Ernie enjoyed taking long walks and visiting with neighbors along the way. Ernie loved spending weekends Spring through Fall at his camp on Brantingham Lake, with dinner promptly at2pm!
Ernie is survived by a sister and brother in law, Jo Ann and Thomas Larkin of Lee Center; a brother and sister in law, Michael and Delores Mercoldie of Lee Center; and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, including a special great niece, Ana. He was pre-deceased by two sisters; Rosemary Clements and Priscilla Carlone and a brother, Richard.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 10 AM at St. Joseph's Church, Lee Center, with the Rev. Robert L. Kelly officiating. Burial with military honors will be in St. John's Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, on Tuesday from 4 to 7 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care.
