Obituary of Joyce M. Butler

Joyce M. Butler, age 88, of Taberg, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2019 at the Grand at Rome. Joyce was born in Rome on July 15, 1930 to the late Roy and Alberta Cable Burkhart and graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1948. On March 15, 1950, she was united in marriage to Theodore R. Butler Sr.; a blessed union of 50 years until his passing on September 27, 2000. Joyce worked at Beck's Grove for many years as a cook and waitress. Joyce was an avid reader and enjoyed crafts, pottery, knitting, and crocheting. She was a member and Past President of both the Taberg Fire Department Women's Auxillary and the Meeker-O'Rourke American Legion, and a Girl Scout leader. Joyce is survived by three daughters, Laurie (Russell) Smith of Camden, Karen (Joseph) Koscinski of Sauquoit, and Phyllis (Jeffrey) Baker of Rome; a son, Theodore Jr. (Rebecca) Butler of Taberg; 13 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; two sisters, Sally Rausmusen, and Noreen Hildabrandt; and a brother in law, Robin Hamlet. She was predeceased by a brother, Roy Burkhart Jr; two grandchildren, Christopher Mahl and Brittany Baker; and a sister in law, MaryEllen Hamlet. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 6 PM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in the spring. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 6 PM prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the American Heart Association.
