Richard "Diamond Dick" Nelson, age 92, of Constantia, passed away peacefully at home on February 12, 2019.
He was born May 8, 1926, to the late Charles and Louise Jacobson Nelson. He was formerly married to Doris Steffer Nelson; she passed away on July 7, 2018. He received his Master's Degree from Utica College. He proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy. Dick retired from RADC at Griffiss AFB where he worked as a software engineer.
Dick was a many faceted man, an avid fisherman and hunter, a passionate collector, and an immeasurable source of knowledge. His wit and inspiration will be missed.
Dick is survived by two daughters and sons in law, Laura Sue and Thomas Dekker of Colgate, WI, and Nancy Louise and Anthony Freddoso of Ilion; a son, Richard Alan Nelson of Rome; grandchildren, Bethany and Mike Pandolfo, Joshua and Sharon Freddoso, Jake and Zachary Dekker, and Amber Munio; great grandchildren, Jake and Ryan Pandolfo; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Gregory Nelson, and a grandson, Trevor Anthony Munio.
Funeral services will be private.
