Obituary of Francis Leo Tyler

Francis Leo "Red" Tyler, age 89, of Rome, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2019, with his family at his side. Red was born May 21, 1929, in Rome, NY a son of the late Charles B. and Geraldine Mousseau Tyler. Francis was united in marriage to the former Ann Santoro, on May 3, 1958, in Rome. He worked at Revere Copper Products, retiring after nearly four decades of employment. Francis served in the US Air Force during the Korean War and was a tail gunner in the B-50 bomber aircraft. He was on the first regularly scheduled Atomic Bomb Crews and flew everywhere around the world including El Paso, TX, Guam, Japan, French Morocco, England and Scotland. He was Honorably Discharged from the service in 1953. Francis leaves two sons and a daughter in-law David Francis and Patricia Ann Tyler and Stephen Charles Tyler, a grandson Jeremy Francis Tyler and a great grandson Owen Francis Hunt. Francis was predeceased by a grandson Daniel Townsend Tyler. He leaves behind a beautiful Pekingese dog named Toby, who shared his final hours with him. Red loved his family and they did many things together over his lifetime. He especially enjoyed taking rides across Upstate New York with his son Stephen. They had a shared love of automobiles of all types. The entire family spent many happy moments on many vacations over the past 30 years, especially in Lake Placid, NY, the ancestral home of the Tylers. Red took his family skiing at Woods Valley, biking across Central New York and always had his favorite dogs by his side. Red enjoyed the dogs over the years, and they added to family life at the Tyler household. Francis was extremely generous and helped many people over his lifetime. He did not hesitate to help with financial resources or physical labor. He was a good friend to many people, and he will certainly be missed by many. Red was an avid R/C Modeler and helped form clubs in the Central New York area and designed and built many aircraft. Francis also liked boating and built nearly a dozen boats in his lifetime. He had a particular love of sail boats. Francis thought out-of-the-box and embraced his left handedness. He taught his family not to accept everything at face value and to look deeper into all things. He guided his children to get higher education and to love and respect their fellow humans. He loved his family deeply and constantly showed that love to them. Love was a common bond they all shared. Francis was of the Hebrew Faith and he observed the Torah of Moses, including the Commandments, Dietary Laws and Holy Days of the Hebrew Bible. He will be given a private service by his son David who is a Minister ordained by the United Israel World Union (UIWU), one of the oldest Jewish Outreach organizations in the United States, founded in New York City in 1944 (UnitedIsrael.org).
