Alfred "Al" J. Dawson, Jr., age 84, of Rome, passed away October 16, 2009. He was born July 30, 1925, in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Alfred J. and Eva Whitford Dawson. He graduated from Clarkson College of Technology (Clarkson University) in 1950. Al was united in marriage to the former Mary Spadaccini, on May 26, 1951, in Canton, NY. He worked as an executive salesman at Rome Cable Corp., retiring in 1988, after 38 years of service. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Lee Center, Teugega Country Club and the Rome Cemetery Board. Al proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and later in the Naval Reserves. Al is survived by his loving wife, Mary; two sons and a daughter in law, Bill Dawson of Attica, and Mark and Helena Dawson of San Diego, CA; and a grandson, Jeffrey Dawson of San Diego, CA. He was predeceased by a son, Jeffrey, in 1983. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 PM, at St. Joseph's Church in Lee Center. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, Monday 2 to 4 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Jervis Public Library or American Cancer Society.
