Leatrice L. Sherman, age 82, of Washington Street, passed away August 17, 2009. She was born August 4, 1927, in Rome, a daughter of Charles W. and Lyla DeForest Hayes, and educated in Rome Schools. Leatrice was united in marriage to James H. Sherman, on February 23, 1946, in Lee Center; he died May 24, 1989. She had been an active member of the Smith Post American Legion and Rome VFW Post auxiliaries. Leatrice was a person with a great sense of humor and lived her life treating her family and friends with love, patience caring and kindness. She will be truly missed. Leatrice is survived by two daughters, Joyce Nadeau and Brenda Fosella and her companion Tom Stein, all of Rome; five sons and two daughters in law, John Sherman of Rome, Charles and Lori Sherman of Lee, George Sherman and his Companion Cherie VonHaack of Bel Air, MD, Karl and Darlene Sherman of Rome, and Kevin Sherman of Key West, FL; three sisters and two brother in law, Gwyn and David Caldwell of Rome, Ruth and Chuck Cadrette of Lee Center, and Mary Mortis of Rome; 16 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. She was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara Sheets ad a son, James H. Sherman, Jr. Funeral services will be private. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
