Obituary of Margaret R. Nagurney

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Margaret “Peggy” Nagurney, 85, of Ava, passed away unexpectedly on March 29, 2024, and went to another planet.

Peggy was born on November 25, 1938 in Lackawanna, NY, and lived most of her life in Rome and Ava, where she raised her family. She attended Catholic school at Saint Mary’s and retired from Birnie Bus.

Peggy was a loving and fun Granny to her grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling down south when she could and spending hours on the phone catching up with her daughter. She loved shopping and living a quiet life on the hill. Peggy was one of a kind, and her loss brings sadness to those who loved her.

She is survived by her son, John Nagurney of Rome; daughter, Michelle Nagurney of Rome; sister, Sue Long of Daytona Beach, FL; two special granddaughters, Aimee Knudsen of Woodstock, GA, and Nicole Knudsen of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; grandsons, Adam Knudsen of Woodstock, GA, and Mathew (Sheena), Johnny, and Travis Nagurney of Rome; and three great-grandchildren, as well as many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rose and J. Walter Long; husband, John Nagurney; cherished daughter and son in law, Cheryl and Ralph Knudsen; and daughter-in-law, Antonia “Toni” Nagurney.

Her family will announce a celebration of life at a later time.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.
