Obituary of Merle F. Redmond

Merle F. Redmond, age 89, of Rome, NY, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2021, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY.

 

Merle was born in Rome on July 13, 1931 to the late Clyde and Doris (Dotzler) Redmond and graduated from Rome Free Academy. He was an IT Analyst and work for various hospitals in Vermont. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957 and was honorably discharged. At the time of his discharge, he was stationed in Vermont, where he resided and continued to work for many years until he returned to Rome for health reasons. He was a religious man who was often seen riding his bike to the First Presbyterian Church on Sundays, health and weather permitting.

 

Merle is survived by a niece, Betsy (Redmond) Harris of Texas; nephew, Franklin Redmond of Arkansas; “cousins by the dozen;” and many good friends. He was predeceased by a brother, Jerome.

 

A Memorial Service with military honors will be held on Sunday at 3 PM at the First Presbyterian Church. His Celebration of Life will continue afterwards at his “field of daisies.”

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church and/or a local veteran’s organization of your choice.
