Marion J. Gentile. 93, of Rome, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 12,2013 at Faxton St. Luke's Hospital with her loving family at her side.

Marion was born on August 9, 1919 in Utica, New York, daughter of Anthony and Apolonia Uhercsik Peterpaul. She was raised in Rome and graduated from Rome Free Academy. She married her high school sweetheart, Vincent J. Gentile on June 29, 1940 at St. John the Baptist Church in Rome, NY, a blessed union of 72 years. They meet at Rome Jr. High School in the 6th grade, their hearts never parted. Marion was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Lee Center. She was a past member of the Demateur Garden Club, The Rome Garden Club, The Lee Legion Auxiliary, the Columbiettes of the Rome Knights of Columbus, as well as, St. Joseph's Women's Club. Her true passion was gardening. She loved tending to flowers and watching the birds from her back window. She devoted her life to her family.

Surviving is her husband Vincent J. Gentile, daughter, Julie Mae Pangbourne and husband David of Rome, son Vincent P. Gentile and Karen Gentile of Rome, sisters-in-law Hazel Peterpaul of North Carolina, Shirley Peterpaul of Lee Center and Catherine Peterpaul of Albany, four grandchildren; Scott Pangboume and his wife Grace of Port Washington NY, Shelley Land and her husband David of Rome, Kristie Boisen and her husband Tim of Lee Center and Amy Small and her husband Robert of North Carolina, brothers Eugene and wife Betty of Lee Center, and John and wife Linda of Florida and seven great-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Patrick, Joseph, Michael, Charles and sister-in-law Mary.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 10:30 AM, St. Joseph's Church in Lee Center with Father Philip Hearn officiating.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at Barry's Funeral Home, 807 West Chestnut Street,Rome, NY. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Rome NY.

The family sincerely thanks the staff of Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare for their care and compassion extended to Marion and the family
