Dominick "Nicko" A. Tagliaferri, 93, of Rome, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Rome City Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born in Rome, New York on October 6, 1919, son of the late Achille and Rose Tagliaferri. Dominick attended Rome Free Academy. He proudly served four years in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He received many honors, including the Good Conduct Medal, American Theatre Ribbon and earned 4 Overseas Bars. On June 26, 1943 he married Carmella "Dolly" Tamburino in St. John's Church, a blessed union of 69 years. Dominick was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren. He never ceased helping and giving to so many people over the years. He and his wife enjoyed traveling with many dear friends. His favorite trip was their visit to the Holy Land. He loved sharing this adventure with everyone. He enjoyed all kinds of sports, but was an avid NY Yankees fan. Dominick was a self-taught carpenter and built many homes in the Rome area. He worked for many years in the General Cable and later worked as a Housing Inspector at Griffiss Air Force Base. After his retirement from Griffiss Air Force Base he moved to Miami, Florida and lived there for 26 years. He and his wife moved back to Rome, NY in October, 2009. Besides his wife Carmella, he leaves six children: Mary Ann and Hal Jones of Miami, Florida; Donella and Les Murphy of Rome, New York; Camille and Jerry Freedner of Valatie, New York; Thomas Tagliaferri of Rome, New York; Daniel Tagliaferri and fiancé Jennifer of Alameda, CA; and Michael and Kathy Tagliaferri of Baltimore, MD; also 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and one on the way. He also leaves one sister, Yolanda Gherini of New York City, New York; sister-in-laws Lena Colangelo and Hilda Vaccaro; and two brother-in-laws, Joe and Geno Tamburino; and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by four brothers: Albert, Quido, Olindo and Achille, Jr., one sister, Josephine and a special son-in-law, Walter Stemkoski.
