Obituary of C. Charles Wood
Please share a memory of C. to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Cliff Wood has been called home to be with our Lord and Savior on November 18, 2018. Awaiting Cliff in Heaven are his dearly departed parents, Earl and Carrie Wood, as well as his elder siblings: Alfreda, Velma, Rebecca and Kenneth. Cliff is survived by Marilysse, his loving and devoted wife of 69 years, and his six children: John (Lynda), Mary, Frederick, Paul (Janice), Carol (David) and Gloria.
Cliff was born January 26, 1925, in Point Rock. He graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1941 at the age of 16. As part of the "Greatest Generation," at the age of 18, Cliff enlisted in the US Army and was assigned to the Transportation Corp. In June 1944, Cliff's unit would be one of those that would storm Omaha Beach for the liberation of France. Later, as part of Patton's 3rd Army, Cliff would fight in the historic, "Battle of the Bulge." From the European Theater he would be shipped to the Asian Theater just prior to the war's end.
Back in the States, Cliff worked for the Oneida County Highway Department as the District Supervisor of the North Western Region. Cliff also served as the Justice of the Peace, Town of Lee, for nearly 16-years. As the Town and County Supervisor for several years, he oversaw the acquisition of the land under the Greenspan Plan that would later become the Lee Town Park which was established in 1967. Cliff also proudly served as the Mason's Lodge Chaplain and two terms as the Lodge Master. He is a lifetime member of the American Legion and helped construct Post #1794.
Cliff was a strong but unassuming man of great integrity and faith. Though he was not one to brag, his history was gleaned later in his life as a true American story.
The following list is the Wood extended family tree. Cliff's grandchildren are: Jennifer Gallo, Cliff Wood, Halle Wood, Spencer Wood, Kristina Holland, Daniel Wood, Megan Wood and Jonathan Wood. His great grandchildren are: Kaitlin Gallo, Raymond Gallo, Sierra Wood, Isabella Wood, Cliff Wood, Madeleine Holland, Samson Wood, Caeleb Wood, Conrad Wood and Luke Wood.
The Wood Family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all of Cliff's friends that have visited him or kept him in their thoughts and prayers. A very special thank you to Cliff and Audrey Wood, Jennifer Gallo, James and our beloved Karen Mortis, and Patrick and Debbie Heatherington. Words cannot express our love and appreciation to these wonderful people.
