Obituary of Ruth E. Hawkins

Ruth E. Hawkins, age 84, formerly of Holland Patent, passed away peacefully, May 24, 2015, at the Eastern Star Home in Oriskany. She was born June 3, 1930, in Rome, a daughter of the late Royal and Pauline Ritter Rocker and educated in Remsen schools. Ruth was united in marriage to Roy W. Hawkins, Jr. on April 27, 1957, in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church; he died November 9, 2001. She worked at Rome Cable Corp, and later worked in the family trucking and farming business. In her spare time, Ruth loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and driving and travelling around; enjoying the natural beauty of the area. The family wishes to sincerely thank the staff of the Eastern Star Home for their care and compassion extended to Ruth during her illness, and a special thank you to Ruth's son in law, Issiah, for his devoted care, love and assistance willingly extended to her. Ruth is survived by a daughter and son in law, Lori and Issiah Toner of Steuben; four sons and three daughters in law, Bruce and Kathleen of Westernville, Randy and Melissa Hawkins of Newport, Kevin Hawkins and fiancée, Christina Bator of Steuben, and Neal and Katrine Hawkins of Steuben; a brother, Carleton "Jake" Rocker of Blossvale; a sister in law, Kay Rocker of Rome; 16 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Charlotte Travell, a brother, Richard Rocker and sister in law, Jean Rocker. The funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 AM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday 4 to 7 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Eastern Star Home Memorial Fund.
