Obituary of Donna Lee Nettleton

Please share a memory of Donna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Donna Lee Civitelli Nettleton, age 77, of Rome, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2021 with her family by her side.

Donna was born in Rome on October 2, 1944 to the late Eustacchio and Carmella Fratelli Civitelli.  She graduated from RFA in 1962, attended the Utica School of Commerce, worked for the City of Rome for several years and retired from the Federal Government Defense Finance Accounting Service in Rome. In retirement, she enjoyed a part-time job as a crossing guard.

Donna led a lifetime of civic duty as a civil servant, member of the CSEA Union where she held elected office, and as an organizer for the United Way Campaign in Rome. She also enjoyed spending time in her beloved community attending and supporting events throughout the years.  Donna had a special relationship with animals, loving and being loved by them.  She was also an avid sports fan who especially cheered Rome Sports and Syracuse University Basketball.  Donna was a strong character with an “I can do it” attitude that helped her through many of life’s challenges.  Importantly, all that Donna did in her life was rooted in her special love for, pride in and bond with her “best life’s accomplishment”, being mother of and to her beloved daughter, Jodi.

Donna found great joy in spending time with family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Jodi (Aaron “Karl” Reimann) Nettleton; her sister, JoAnne West; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; her dear friend Mike Melioris, lifelong friends in Rome and across the country. She was predeceased by her brother, George Civitelli.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 7, 2022, at 11 AM, at the Church of St. John the Baptist, with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care and/or the Humane Society of Rome.

Donna’s family extends its deepest gratitude and thanks to Dr. Atul Butala and his staff, particularly Becky, for their 30 years of loving and compassionate care for our beloved Donna.  Dr. Butela was her “angel”.  Last but not least, special love and thanks go to her good friend Mike, who was always there to help Donna.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.
