Obituary of Michael A. Evanciew

Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Michael “Butch” A. Evanciew, age 74, of Rome, passed away peacefully at home on July 1, 2021.

He was born June 19, 1947, in Rome, a son of the late Charles and Julia (Busyczak) Evanciew, and graduated from Rome Free Academy.  Butch was united in marriage to the former Audrey Beckwith in Niagara Falls; she died on February 29, 2020.  He was a machine operator at Revere Copper Products, retiring after many years of service.

He may have been a man of few words, but he would light up and talk at length if you were talking about his passions in life; his grandchildren, hunting, and fishing. He loved every moment he was able to spend with his grandchildren and he was often found in the garden with them assisting in planting or harvesting the crop. He would ride them around on the tractor with him, or take walks in the woods with them, or even have a nerf gun war with them, anything to make them smile. Upon entering his bedroom, you would find the mount of the largest deer he had harvested with a bow. He still enjoyed going out hunting and for walks with his faithful dog, Blue, by his side. He could fix anything with a motor, he would often be found at local auctions looking for his next project. Tractors were his favorite thing to tinker with, he could work on them for hours until finally getting them to run the way he wanted to. His departure from this life has left a hole in the hearts of many that will never be filled. He will forever be missed, but there is comfort found in knowing he is reunited with the love of his life and can embrace their love once again.

Butch is survived by his children, Amie and Martin Robinson of Cold Brook, Alicia Evanciew of Rome, and Michael Evanciew and Sandi Havens of Lee Center; sisters and brothers in law, Virginia and Donald Niemetz of Rome, Julie and Edward Aikens of Rome; brothers and sisters in law, Charles Jr, and Virginia Evanciew of Lee Center, and John and Carol Evanciew of Rome; grandchildren, Nicholas, Nolan, Ayden and Adilynn; great friend, Ron Harris; his beloved dog, Blue; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Millicent Wampfler.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 6:00 PM, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 6 PM, prior to the funeral service.
