Obituary of Bonnie Lee Barkevich

Bonnie Lee Barkevich, Age 65, of Rome NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 23, 2021, at home surrounded by her loving family.

Bonnie was born in Gloversville, New York on February 22, 1956 to the late Erskine and Jennie Wilson Tanner. She was educated in the Gloversville, NY Schools. She worked as a Diamond Mine Representative at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino where she retired from after 11 years.

She enjoyed fishing, camping, bonfires, making floral bouquets and wreaths , reading, word searches, and baking. She was a long time leader and sponsor for AA and then Celebrate Recovery, she taught Sunday school at Light and Life church in Rome, a life-long member of the Mayfield Center Community Church, and supported various local charities.

Bonnie is survived by her daughter, April Hayes of Rome; her son, James Swart and his wife, Shaney Burnett of Florida; grandchildren, Elisabeth, David, and Shaun; great-grandchildren, Jace,  Luke, and due in July, Octavia; and her sisters, Joyce Abare, Beatrice Erb, Darlene Basore, and Brigiette Danise. She was predeceased by her sister, Diane Hogan; and brother, Abe Tanner.

Bonnie felt very strongly about furthering medical research for students and for this reason her remains reside at SUNY Upstate for research.  Therefore, there will not be a formal wake or ceremony.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.
