Obituary of Mary Ellen Posselt
Mary Ellen (Della) Posselt, age 83, of Rome, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2020, with her loving son at her side.
She was born July 1, 1937, in New Hyde Park, Long Island, a daughter of the late Thomas and Jeanette Beyer Delahunt, and graduated from Oriskany schools. Mary Ellen was united in marriage to Louis J. Posselt, on July 8, 1966, in Manhattan, NY; he died on April 29, 2016. She worked for many years at General Electric and later worked and retired from the Bank of New York in Oriskany.
Mary Ellen loved spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter, Isabella. Mary Ellen enjoyed spending time playing cards with family and friends. Della was the winner of many card tournaments with partner Jay at Masonic. Traveling and going to Casinos were the favorite past time for Mary Ellen. She also enjoyed getting her hair done and having manicures as well. Mary Ellen always loved to get dressed and go out on the town. She was full of life, feisty and never wanted to be home, her husband Lou, put many miles on traveling the world.
Mary Ellen is survived by a son, Lawrence “Larry” J. Posselt and Michele Grifasi of Rome; a cherished granddaughter, Isabella Posselt; a brother and sister in law, Thomas and Betty Delahunt of Jacksonville, FL; many nieces & nephews all across the country. She was predeceased by two sisters, Diane Merriman and Jeanette Delahunt; and two brothers, Richard and Larry Delahunt.
The family wishes to sincerely thank the staff of the Buffalo Household Unit at the Masonic Care Community for their care, compassion and friendship extended to Mary Ellen (Della). Specially Melinda (Anni) & Rukij, and a special friend Jean Niznik, (I love you more) forever grateful for care and compassion of Dr. McCormick & Dr. Kashtanova.
Through the years, Bill and Gail Reese & Ray and Sharon Bouton, have been like family to Mary Ellen and Lou. A very special thank you for always being there them. Their kindness and caring will never be forgotten.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio, will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM, at the Church of St. John the Baptist, 210 E. Dominick St., Rome. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Please wear masks and adhere to Covid-19 guidelines and restrictions.
The Family asks that in lieu of flower, contributions be made to Masonic Care Community in Mary Ellen’s name. Envelopes will be available at the church.
