Obituary of Russell Smith
Russell “Smitty” Smith, age 93, of Rome, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2020.
He was born June 20, 1927, in Alloway, New Jersey, a son of the late Howard and Eldora LaCount Smith. Smitty was united in marriage to the former Marie Civitelli in the Church of St. John the Baptist; she died May 12, 2008. He worked for the Rome CNYDSO and later as a truck driver with Coccia Bros, Prossner Bros. and Stanwix Lumber. He was a member of St. Peter’s Church, Smith Post American Legion and the Oneida County Sheriff Department Auxiliary.
Smitty is survived by two daughters and sons in law, Barbara and Lloyd Drake of Rome, and Patricia and Edward Kienowski of Orlando, FL; two sons and daughters in law, Russel Jr., and Michaela Smith of Nevada, and Donald and Clarissa Smith of Rome; a sister, Grace and a brother, Donald; grandchildren, Melissa and fiancé, Ernest, Jimmy Smith and April and Jake; other grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by several brothers and sisters.
A mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Sean O’Brien, will be held on Friday at 11:00 am at St. Peter’s Church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Friends and relatives may call at St. Peter’s Church, on Friday from 10 to 11 AM, prior to the funeral mass. Please wear masks and adhere to social distancing requirements.
