Obituary of Reda M Gibbs
Reda M. Gibbs, age 93, of Preswick Glen in New Hartford and former long-time resident of Rome, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital with her family by her side.
She was born July 7, 1927, in Rome, the third of five children of the late Earl and Margaret (Murphy) Moster. She graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1945 and was then employed by Revere Copper and Brass, where she met her future husband, I. Barry Gibbs. They were united in marriage on November 22, 1952, in St. Mary’s Church, a marriage of 48 years until he passed away on December 26, 2000. While Barry was in the Air Force, she worked at Rapid City National Bank in Rapid City, SD. She later worked for the City of Rome Treasurer’s Office for 19 years, retiring in 1991. She was a member of St. Paul’s Church.
Reda is survived by two sons and a daughter in law, Jeffrey and Linda Gibbs of Naples FL & Old Forge, NY, and Paul Gibbs of Sandwich, MA; a sister, Harriet Bauer of Rome;; six grandchildren, Ryan, Matthew (Maggie), Danielle, Jillian (Joe), Chelsea and Hailee; great grandchildren, Jack and Sean; sister in law, Ann Moster of Rome; and a brother in law, Walt Sanborn of Rome; a special niece, Nancy Koons as well as 16 other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters and brothers in law, Betty and Bob Cook, and Shirley (Bobbie) and Francis Lappin; a brother Earl Moster; and brothers and sisters in-laws, Gerald and Marilyn Griffin and Pat Sanborn.
A Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated by Rev. Robert L. Kelly, will be held Saturday at 1:00 PM, at St. Paul’s Church, followed by burial in Rome Cemetery. Please wear masks and adhere to social distancing guidelines.
At Reda’s request, there are no calling hours.
