Obituary of Kathleen M. Sancomb
Kathleen M. (Rocker) Sancomb, age 86, of North Western, went to heaven to be with her husband, Nelson, on July 18, 2020. Her loving family was at her side when she passed.
She was born June 30, 1934, in Rome, to the late Floyd and Henrietta Kielbasa Rocker, and graduated from Oriskany schools. Kathleen was united in marriage to Nelson “Junior” Sancomb on December 31, 1985, in North Western; he passed away on March 18, 2004. She worked for many years at Price Chopper, retiring in 1986. She was a former member of the Westernville Methodist Church.
She enjoyed cooking and baking and everyone always looked forward to her famous Christmas cookies and pies. In the spring and summer, she loved fishing on Lake Delta.
Kathleen is survived by her children, Dianne Stern of Blossvale, Kathy and Howard Kotary of Floyd, and William and Robin Yager of Blossvale; a sister, Marjorie Mauer of Stanwix; a brother and sister in law, Donald and Karen Rocker of Lakeland, FL; grandchildren, Rodney Yager, John, Anthony and Melissa LaBarbera, Christopher and Matthew Yager, Nikki (Kotary) Benton and Justin Kotary; 18 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren; stepchildren, Bruce and Lois Sancomb of Westernville, and Clara and John Carl of Massena; step grandchildren, Jennifer and Bradley Sancomb, Johnny and Frank Carl, and Jon and Ben Mortis; and several step great grandchildren and step great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her feline companions, Belle and Charlie. She was predeceased by sisters, Betty Clancy and Mary Doty, a brother, Floyd Rocker, and step grandchildren, Crystal Townsend and Bruce Sancomb, Jr.
The family wishes to offer a special thank you to Dr. Din, Patti and Judy, to Hospice Care; Deb, Kristy, Ashley and Melissa, and the staff at the Abraham House of Rome, for their care, compassion and support extended to Kathleen during her illness.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 6:00 PM, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 West Chestnut Street. A private burial will be in Westernville Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday 4 to 6 PM, prior to the funeral service. Those attending are required to wear masks and adhere to social distancing guidelines.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care or the Abraham House of Rome.
