Obituary of Thomas A. Barry

Thomas A. "T-Bear" Barry, age 66, of Rome, passed away unexpectedly on June 1, 2019. He was born March 15, 1953, in Rome, the son of the late Thomas A. and Anne Majka Barry. He graduated from Rome Catholic High School in 1971 and SUNY Oswego in 1975. Tom was united in marriage to the former Crystal Heisler on August 7, 1982, in the Church of the Transfiguration. He worked for over 38 years for (Niagara Mohawk) National Grid, retiring in 2015. He was a member of the Church of the Transfiguration and served as a lector. Tom was an avid sports participant and enthusiast. He was President of the Rome Sports Hall of Fame and served on the selection committee, President of the Michelle Adey Memorial Fund, Director of the Shamrock Shootout Basketball Tournament. Coached AYSO Soccer, RCH Football, Boys and Girls Basketball, RCH Baseball and RFA Boys Modified Basketball. He was always very active in Rome youth sports and an avid S.U. Basketball fan. He also was a member of the Lake Delta Yacht Club. Most importantly, Tom best loved watching any sports event with his family at his side. Tom is survived by his loving wife, Crystal; two daughters and a son in law, Kelly and Micah Yuzakewich of Rome, and Tricia Barry and her fiancée Zachary Johnson of Rome; two sisters and brothers in law, Mary Anne and James Kenny of Rome, and Rosemary and Rick Kukuk of Clifton Park; and a granddaughter, Sydney Yuzakewich. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Philip A. Hearn, will be held Wednesday at 10:30 AM, at the Church of the Transfiguration. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, on Tuesday from 3 to 7 PM.
